We’re living in a world that is far more complex than just a few decades ago. As time flies, there are more and more things we feel we should master in our everyday lives. Herein lies a big opportunity for you and me as marketers.
A famous marketer tells the story of how he was wrestling with a direct-mail project involving the sale of a rather complicated financial product to unsophisticated investors. Two consecutive test mailings failed, although this marketer thought they were well-written, clear and exciting.
There was only one problem. A pretty big one. They written piece just didn’t work! The author read through the sales letter a hundred times and still found no clue as to what was wrong. The breakthrough came when he got the idea of adding a little diagram at the end. This diagram showed – in cartoon form – the gist of the promoted product.
By simply adding a simple drawing, the written piece became a big success. That one drawing made the complicated simple and easy to understand.
Learn from this in your own business. Here are a few examples of products and services that have made the complicated simple. Learn from them. Get inspiration from them and try to apply the same principle in your business. If you’re already doing this, you can probably improve..
1. Autoresponders.
How on earth would you go about building a list without an autoresponder? As long as you’re able to drive traffic to a web page, the opt in from created by your autoresponder will take care of the hard work for you. Plus you can pre-load it with as many messages as you want and these will be sent out, like clockwork, at the appointed time.
Think the guy who figured out the autoresponder, had a money maker on his hands? Well, you know the answer to that one
2. Website Builders.
Techie stuff is a problem for a lot of people online. Building a website the old fashioned way is time consuming, and there’s a lot of stuff you need to learn. How to solve this problem? Create a website builder so simple that Joe Average can use it while still half asleep. I need go no further than to myself. The only websites I ever got built were created with the help of a simple website builder.
3. Video Creation Services.
Did you ever consider creating a video for your business, but found the task too daunting for your liking? No wonder. There’s a lot of stuff you need to learn to be able to produce a great looking video. Video creation services to the rescue!
This is also the reason why I chose to learn web video a while back. By creating videos for marketers who do not want to learn this time consuming skill, I make their life easier.
4. The “… for Dummies” book series.
The entire “…for Dummies” book series is a fantastic example of how making life easier for people is the perfect strategy for creating monster business success.
“Guitar for dummies”, “Body language for dummies”, “Managing for dummies”. The list goes on and on, and new titles are probably being added all the time. Make sure to consider this “make the complicated simple” principle for your business.
If there are new and creative ways that you can make things less complicated for your customers, you can expect to see a boost in sales and a growth in company profits.
Albert Einstein was not a marketer, but he would probably have made a great one. Here’s what he said: “Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler.”
Remember this quote from Einstein. It’s a great business principle to live by.

So many people spend way to much time on complicating things instead of doing the basics well. If people could just get away from over-complicating matters they would save a heap of time and money and actually have more success…
