How To Keep Internet Operations Organized

If you were to ask any Internet business owner about how well organized their operations are, they’ll more than likely say, ?Possibly not.?

In fact, many organizations throw up an expensive website using all the latest bells and whistles, only to find it a generally unsatisfying experience. Apart from the technical versus sales and marketing issues of the website itself, many organizations, both in terms of appropriate behaviors, as well as of effective organizational designs has been sadly neglected by many established site owners.

You may have a business site with dedicated Web staff, yet it is poorly integrated within your parent organization and tasked with non-defined roles.

A simple question needs to be asked, ?Do you have a networking group directed by a chief Web officer and composed of dedicated staff for each business function?? If not, then depending upon your organizations’ size and abilities, you’ll need to implement such a group or outsource those functions.

Typically, many conventional site owners have acquired organizational habits that are not well aligned to the needs of ecommerce. It should be noted there are various undesirable traits or behaviors found in many organizations that must be guarded against.

You might find that increasing complexity in your company has resulted in inflexibility and slow decision making processes. There is also a tendency towards internal conflict and stratification, as well as a leadership that would tend to emphasize capital investment as a solution to all problems.

The movement towards networking with a specific group, which characterizes a typical consumer goods business, will carry with it limited coordination among your departments and divisions resulting in a weakened sense of market trends and increased dissatisfaction.

These features are in direct conflict with what you should know about the cultural characteristics of pure successful ecommerce businesses. An Internet business is predominantly a flat organization with quick decision making, where risk taking is encouraged and failure is merely an education.

Employees may tend to work long hours at the office by choice and are very self disciplined. Typically, such companies use guiding principles rather than procedures and tend to lead by example. When these two types of cultural environments are brought together, unexpected and perhaps dysfunctional behaviors must be expected to emerge.

Given the cultural and organizational differences between new and old ecommerce businesses, the way in which you, as an established site owner should set up and manage Internet operations, is therefore extremely important.

One factor to consider, is that small Internet businesses are more flexible organizationally. You should consider that ecommerce has provided greater electronic quality for smaller businesses in relation to their larger competitors.

You will need an increased willingness to seek appropriate alliances and partnerships, plus consider organizational designs, company spin-offs, etc., that will provide convergence to the integrated business model required to overcome these mismatches in culture and outlook.

The many advantages derived from the Internet must be exploited both within and between existing sectors of your offline business. With the ways in which networked organizations are evolving, it should be realized that only those retaining an Internet culture, in a parallel or networking group style of operation, closely identifies with the ecommerce aspects of a business’overall objectives will become more successful.

Do you listen to Critics?

If you’ve ever watched reality shows on TV, you’ll probably agree with me that more emphasis is given to pointing out the embarrassing aspects of the contestants.

The critics are harsh, snarky and downright mean. But we watch them to make ourselves feel better. I want to share a video that came along my way and how moved I was with Paul’s (a mobile sales man from South Whales) performance and his determination to follow his dream… Watch…

But the real takeaway for me is, no matter how small-minded and harsh the critics are, in the respective markets/businesses we are in - push through with passion.

For my friends and clients who do business online, some frustrated and some optimistic - here are my two cents:

“If your gut feeling is that, you’re in the right market and got the determination to push through ‘the dip’ - Pursue it with passion.”

But, if your inner voice says that you should be doing something else, quit now and pursue what feels right to YOU. If you are stuck with the  idea of making it big with the Internet medium - you can still start any business and utilize the power of the Internet anyway.

Critics can come in many forms, your family, your spouse, neighbors, colleagues, even online gurus…

Do not completely believe the predictions of the Gurus that we see & hear so much, especially during the last and the first months of the year. The critics always have something alarming to say - but it’s just to keep you from trying and moving further.

In 2008, be optimistic about your business - and push through with passion. Otherwise find something that you are passionate about and start your business surrounding that.

Have a fun and profitable NEW YEAR!

Sincerely,

This $10,000 Affiliate Contest is Kicking My A_ _

This Affiliate contest is kicking my A _  _ . I am excited and have this ‘nervous  energy’ around me.

Of course I am happy for the lucky to-be  winner, but at the same time…

…It’s stirring up all kinds of  emotions inside of me - thinking of how  the $10,000 is going to make someone’s  Christmas a bit more rewarding and  hopefully a memorable experience for the  winner’s family!

Listen carefully…

We’ve decided that we’re gonna go a step  further and ’show up at the Lucky  person’s door-step’ - instead of just  sending a $10,000 check!

To make this a reality, and to get the  NEXT FLIGHT OUT to ‘where ever it may  be’, we have to pick the WINNER tomorrow  Dec 4th, at 12:00 NOON instead of 12:00  Midnight the next day.

This will give us enough time to arrange  for the very next flight out from  Albany, NY Airpiort. (Yes, we do have a  Travel Agent, ready to book a ticket  within a few hours after we pick the  winner)

So , here’s the deal….

We are going to pick the $10,000 winner  for the BWL Affiliate contest TOMORROW,  Dec 4th, at 12:00 NOON - BUT will show  up at the winner’s door-step on the 5th,  (ie. if the winner lives in the United  States)

If the winner lives outside the US,  we’ll need a couple of days to make the  trip arrangements.

Good Luck to all in the Contest Pool!

Best regards,

P.S. Clearly, I can’t focus, and I can’t  function normally today - so I have  decided to take the rest of the day off  and have Kristin Hilton, (my Affiliate  Manager) handle this.

Strategic Internet Business Planning

What will Happen if you Don’t develop a online strategic Focus?

BusinessThe short answer is, not much! If you don’t use a focused, cohesive strategy in your online business, you will probably survive, for a while at least. But, your business won’t be transformed into the success you know it can and should be.Without a basic online strategy, a business is like a rudderless boat. It continues to float, but the boat is carried by prevailing winds and currents. And it usually ends up at the wrong destination. The same thing will happen to your online business if you don’t plan for its success. Ultimately, you will lose control of your business. You are forced into reaction mode. And that is how you miss opportunities. Your competitors will take the initiative. And you will be left behind.

Rapid and sustained growth in any Internet business has to be launched from a strategic platform. Failure to create and maintain a strategic focus, means that growing the business is really hard work. And the results don’t last for long.

It also doesn’t matter how big the business is. Whether you work alone, or are supported by a large team, the challenge remains the same. Develop a balanced Internet business strategy, and make sure that all that strategic action is taken.

Strategic Internet Business Planning is like reading a map. Before you can plan a route, you first have to locate your destination and current position on the map. Without these reference points, you are lost. But with them, you are able to choose the most effective route for making the journey.

When is the best time for your Golden Hour?

Time StudyI would like to know when is the best time for your Golden Hour. Mine is always in the mornings because of my schedule.

The successful entrepreneur knows that daily small actions build into a pattern of accomplishment over the days, weeks, months and years throughout the lifetime of a business and so commit themselves to building on specific actions every single day.

The most profitable time any business entrepreneur can spend is to set aside a specific time each day for the purpose of focusing on and generating ideas to grow your business potential and profits.

The best time to do this is during what is called “the golden hour” The golden hour is the first hour upon waking each morning. Thinking positively and creatively at this time of the day then sets the tone for your entire day.

For the next month set your clock to get up a little earlier than normal and spend this extra time to simply focus on growing your business through the implementation of ideas generated during your “golden hour.”

This daily routine eventually becomes an automatic part of daily life, and your thinking becomes activated towards being aware of the many money making opportunities that exist all around you for the development and growth of your business.

Here are a few suggestions to start the thought process.

You might get an idea for a new book. Can you start some research? or is there someone you would like to ask for an interview?

It may be an idea for writing a tip or an article to post to the free content directories that could generate interest in your business and products for the purpose of increasing sales.

It could be to submit some pages to a new search engine or blog directory you have read about.

Place a classified advertisement somewhere you have not advertised before.

Find a joint venture partner for an idea you have.

Teach a class offline or online.

Offer consultancy services.

Write a press release for your business.

Place a bid for freelance contract work.

Send an query to a paying magazine with an article idea.

Implementing an idea you have read about for marketing your web site or book that you had not got around to trying yet.

Ideas can also be as simple as reviewing all your headlines for effectiveness - your articles, your web site pages, your e-mail subject lines, your resource box, the title of your e-zine, your advertising copy etc.

Carry a notebook or small tape recorder with you at all times specifically to record ideas that might surface outside your “golden hour”.

What are your ideas for today? Take the time to write them down.

It is important that you record the ideas generated and create an action plan to implement. The sooner an idea is implemented the sooner you see an income from it. Decide on the one most important productive thing you can do today for your business and just do it.

When is your Golden Hour?
