In 1997 I gathered 28 names and emails of people from an online webmaster forum,who expressed their difficulty in finding good resources to build their websites.
Then, I gathered over 300 links to useful webmaster resources, categorized them in order, and started a membership site called support- pros.com, (the site is no longer active).
I loaded up the ‘then state-of-the- art’ email software, called ‘Group- Mail’ …and send all 28 people an email to let them know about my membership resource website. (This type of list building is considered spam these days)

That was my first attempt to make money on the Internet.
